Alternate Energy Sources

An article in “The Hindu” has brought to focus about a town panchayat, which has started implementing a biogas power plant, that utilizes human waste. The night soil from 240 housing units of the TNHB housing colony will be deposited in a slump and after biological changes, the sludge will produce methane gas. This methane gas will be piped to a power generator. This would be used to power streetlights. This project claims the status as that of the first such alternate energy sourced power plant in kancheepuram district.

Those who have been tracking the development on alternate fuel segment would surely be aware of the Hybrids. Here comes the Next Gen Idea, Plug In Hybrids(PHEVs), which was recently showcased in Alternate Energy Solutions Summit in US.
So what exactly is Plug In Hybrids?

“Plug In Hybrids(PHEVs) are like regular hybrids but with larger batteries and the ability to re-charge from a standard outlet (mostly at night). They’re the best of both worlds: local travel is electric, and you always have a gas tank backup.” says CalCars, a non-profit startup. With the aim to address national security, jobs and global warming, group of entrepreneurs, engineers, environmentalists and consumers joined together to form CalCars.
