It was just a month ago, Former US president Jimmy Carter won the hearts of Indians, visiting Maharastra and TamilNadu. In TamilNadu, he visited Tsunami affected villages and helped the victims by providing them homes. Now it is the turn of another Former President, Bill Clinton, who is also the United Nations Special Envoy for Tsunami Recovery, to visit some of the Tsunami affected hamlets in TamilNadu. Bill Clinton has lot of admirers in TamilNadu and it was very much evident that they were waiting to see him and wave to him. when he reached the airport, though it was already midnight, yet they waited patiently to see him shows the kind of interest he generates. He visited coastal Cuddalore which was ravaged by Tsunami, a few 100 kilometres from Chennai. Bill Clinton appreciated the efforts undertaken and the way recovery has been made in this part of the world. He also appreciated the speed at which the relief work has been carried out and this is what he had to remark “”This is a good model for economic diversification and housing construction, not only for places devastated by natural disaster but also where poor people have substandard housing and not much economic opportunity. What is being done here, I would like to see copied throughout the world,”.

It seems he broke out all the protocols and mingled with the locals, probably it would have been the security officials who would have been very much concerned. He spend couple of hours and watched a mock disaster-preparedness drill. The locals loved the way he reached them and now here is another Former US president who has found a place in the hearts of rural Indians.
